I grew up visiting this park and it is nice to see it is now being cared for. The walk between the two parks is just lovely, with some real treasures to find. The facilities are basic, but useable. The river is still such a great swimming hole! Well worth the trip out to do the bush walk.

First impressions? We entered the reserve via a very narrow road which led to a sandy area at the river. There was no grassed picnic spot, just an overgrown area begging for a mow and picnic table. We then left via the same narrow and winding road, happy not to meet another car on the way. There was another entrance with a very narrow road. This led to area with sign for a walk to the picnic area. This appeared to lead to where we had just come from, so we didn't do the walk.

Awesome swimming hole about 15km from New Plymouth city. Must visit in summer with decent clean toilet and plenty of parking. The spot is 5mins drive from the road and you can take your suv or normal car. No overnight camping. Gate closed at 8.30pm in summer and 5pm in winter. Lots of space for bbq. Bring sunscreen and umbrella . The water is amazing for kids and adults to swim .
