Good staff customer service, this has to be the best little magazine book shop in NZ....

Overnighting in New Plymouth today and decided to buy a couple of magazines. While browsing, a staff member asked my husband to stop reading the magazine he was looking at. He wasn't reading it, he was having a quick flick through it, as you do before you pay $26. She also said the same to another customer who walked out very agitated. We decided to leave also, because of her rude and insulting manner. She lost our sale of 3 magazines at a total value of over $50, and a sale to the other customer she offended. She played the Covid card, saying we could spread it by touching pages in the magazine. No other magazine outlet does this, including Whitcoulls who got the sale. Really, are customers just going to pick magazines off the shelf and buy them without checking them out. Maybe there are people who walk in, read an article with no intention of buying, then leave. But she needs to be on top of this and not treat all customers as if they are dishonest. Maybe a course on customer service sometime soon! We find New Plymouth very friendly on our visits but this person has let her business down. She only has one job, to sell magazines and Lotto tickets! Won't go back.

The lady who I assume was the owner was really rude to me. I was looking at a magazine trying to find the article I was interested in, and got told to stop. Something about my fingers putting covid on all the pages? I didn't see any signage by the magazines I was looking at, however apparently there was signage on the other isles, but it wasn't clear and I wouldn't of known. I could accept that, but her tone was very condescending and she treated me like I was diseased and poor. I understand covid precautions, I myself am 3x vaxxed and wear my mask everywhere, however this felt like a personal attack as there were other people walking around without masks but I was singled out for trying to decide whether or not I wanted to buy something.
