Awaroa Cafe / pizza

Don't bother to dine at the awaroa restaurant , as food not cooked with any love, Thai chicken was store bought coleslaw with over cooked, dry, chewy inedible chicken. disappointing and unimpressed to go all that way to have a lousy meal. Can't imagine what tourists think.

Do not order anything for gluten free. They charge an extra $4 per pizza if you order gluten free and they cannot take into consideration your dietary requirements. They prepared my specifically ordered gluten free pizza on the same place as normal pizzas and use normal flour (to prevent it sticking) on the worktop and the same rolling pin to roll out the pizzas to prepare the dough for cooking. Then also not taking any care when slicing the pizza. I found the staff rude when I challenged this as I was saying that this wasnt gluten free, due to cross contamination. I tried to ask them to remake it, which they would do, but they wouldnt change how they prepared it at all, so I still wouldve eaten gluten if they had remade it. Waste of $30 for a gluten free margarita pizza and the rest of my group who ate it, said it was mediocre at best.

Great atmosphere in a fantastic setting. But if the guy making the pizza's would stop trying to be the coolest kid on the block and stopped flirting with all the foreign lady backpackers maybe it would take a bit less than almost an hour for a pizza to get made...especially considering that you were not that busy.
