YHA Golden Bay

BED BUGS!! Terrible experience. I woke up in the middle of the night scratching myself. The next morning it turned out to be bedbugs. I have more than 30 bites all over my body that have swollen up extremely badly. I was staying in the Blue penguin room. There was nowhere to hang my things so I had to put them on the floor. I consequently also have to disinfect all my clothes, stuff and bags.. which makes me even more annoyed... I also saw a mouse in the kitchen getting into the travellers' food bags that were on the ground (because there were not enough place to stock food and many travelers had to leave their food on the floor in the kitchen). There is only 3 showers for everyone. Which means a lot of waiting to take a shower. I also was surprised to find someone spending the night on the the lounge sofa next to the kitchen. You should better avoid this place..

Located is a great central location if you want to explore the entirety of the Golden bay area. Nice little hostel with friendly staff. The back kitchen could use a better selection of cooking utensils. The wifi was fast and consistent. Multiple bathrooms so waiting to use them is never an issue. A big comfortable outdoor area with a really relaxing energy with lots of unique seating. The laundry all works well but having to wait until 12 to wash your clothes can be a pain as you may have plans and don't want to wait half the day just to wash and collect your laundry after it's dry. There are a few strange messages posted around the place and the fact that they charge $10 if you want to stay past checkout time or have a friend visit you is not a friendly rule. Other than that we were very happy with our stay here and would likely stay again.
