Easy drive from Hamilton, easy parking within a Doc camp site, there is a long drop toilet available before the hike walk starts. It's a signposted 2.1 Km track to the Cookson Kauri. It's a single "in/out" track, no loop and no forks in the track, easy track to walk, wide and well maintained. Six or so well built bridges that cross streams, but the "hard" part is the 400 (ish) steps up the side of the ridge. Well made and good stepping height, just lots of them. Amazing Kauri to see up close, and it just commands the view once you come around the final corner. Lots of bird life to see also
