My partner and I drove into the carpark to be greeted by a senior male as we exited our car. I was wearing a polo (standard golf attire) and my partner a lululemon golf skirt and singlet. The man pointed out a local rule that singlets are prohibited at this golf course. We understand and respect this rule for males as everyone wants a tidy and respectable golf course and male golf singlets are not a common trend. But... as for females we believe this rule should not apply. We were both dressed tidily and we both have played golf for years. We should not be asked to either buy a new female polo (from the pro shop) or leave the golf course entirely. If golf NZ aims to expand the game of golf amongst youth, rules like this are what push youth away from these older-demographic, traditional courses. Senior golf club members treatment of the younger demographic is a very common issue and something I have came across too many times. I understand this rule for males, but for younger women golf is becoming more popular and singlets dominate young female golf attire. In the future this may give a sexist outlook on the course. After all, we are in 2023 not 1923.

This place saved my life. Was my turning point after my life blowing up in 2021 from years of personal neglect. 2022, from January 7th, playing day in, day out for six months of my life, and regularly after August; this will always be a very special place for me. Greens are amazing. The members are too. I couldn't be more thankful for this place, or the game of golf.
