Doughboats Lake Taupo

Doughboat is an amazing concept and lake is beautiful. However our boat did not fonction well. We had to stay close to the shore with the anchor and come back. The staff did not look sorry at all and did not offer us a free ride or anything, like if they knew our engine was broken. Don't take the boat #2, if you can choose.

Fun and unique experience cruising the beautiful Lake Taupo in Doughboat. We brought our mom and aunt on board as they are afraid to kayak or jet ski in the lake, they ended up having so much fun enjoying the sunset and scenery. Thea has been wonderful and checking in on us to ensure we have the safety on and took some memorable pictures for us. Worthwhile and remarkable experience!

Utterly terrifying. Avoid. The company advises adults to remove their lifejackets when swimming but the vessels only have rope ladders for getting back onboard. The vessels have curved sides so the ladders curve underneath when you try to use them. It is possible with considerable effort to haul yourself back onboard but thats really only feasible for adults with considerable upper body strength. No explanation is provided about proper technique or the inherent risks. We were at real risk of drowning for the sake of a rigid ladder for boats which cost $80.
