The Old Piopio Post Office

I was SO hopeful that this seemingly quaint country shop would provide some beautiful mementos to compliment my trip through the countryside, HOWEVER, it seemed to be mostly cheap and bulk bought imported jewellery and easily found on EBay along with a very large collection of pottery placed all over the floor. Even IF this place had been a mecca of quality, personal, handmade items of the 'owner' was so unfriendly they alone would prompt me to throw my wallet into the nearby stream before spending a cent there. The atmosphere was strange and unwelcoming, I almost felt like I was intruding by being there (maybe because I was accompained by my young siblings and my partner was perusing the second hand books). The smell which I had assumed to be a strange musk from a poorly ventilated heritage building was actually from an oddly diapered dog that was behind the counter. The public toilets 200m away smelt nicer... We left after the 'owner' accused my 9 year old sister of theft and snatched a book (he would have potentially bought) my partners hands...(for perusing too long apprently..) All in all an unfortunately unpleasant experience, not that I'm in Pio Pio often, but I shan't return here. Spend your time and money elsewhere is my advice.

I called in on my way home after the Six60 concert. Have been meaning to call in for ages. The shop was packed with happy concert goers. Very happy with my purchases. Thanks!

I had online dealings with the owners ahead of a trip, and they've answered all my questions quickly and professionally. They have a wide array of books and jewelry that has something for everyone. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
