This place is amazing. As entering the village there is a turn off where u can go to the bottom of the dam. Of you miss the lil turn off it takes you to the top. My pop workd here back in the days, as a kid he took menfor a tour the inside is amazing! Wish they still did it.

One of the eights dams built on Waikato River. It was built in 1940s. Currently it's operated by Mercury Energy. It's a great experience for kids to see this as EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) There is also a sign with introduction. One side is a vast and calm lake. The other side is 10 storeys lower with spillway. There is an one lane traffic light. You can also see the power lines and transformers on the dam. Some food for thoughts is energy and conservation for the kids

A great little 90 MW hydro power station hidden away off the main road. One can drive over the dam. It was built during WW2 and so was delayed in being completed. It is the final dam on the Waikato River and the second one to be built.

Beauty of a lake! One lane bridge with traffic lights on top of dam. Excellent views on either side. Sometimes can see fish below.
