Waikino Station Cafe

Good location - just not the friendliest of staff.

We were unfortunately let down by our visit here. My husband chose the chicken burger $19 which didn't include fries (not something they do they abruptly said) They had sold out of the soup, so I went with pancakes $22.. I asked if the bacon could be a bit crispy (maybe, we're a bit busy, they said) we took our number & waited for around 20min for our order. I received 2 medium sized pancakes with somewhat crispy bacon, banana & other fresh fruit & little syrup. My husband's burger was more like a large sandwich, the chicken filling seemed to be one you get in the frozen section. We also chose a couple of cabinet items, no drinks, total order almost $60. Based on the cost of items & the time it took we did expect better. Not a place I'd recommend unless going for the train.

We caught the 9:45am train from Waihi to the Waikino Station Cafe. Staff were amazing and fast - all set for the influx of train passengers. A great choice of cabinet items allowed us to catch the 10:45am train back. The lemon drizzle cake was amazing. Best I have ever had. Giant choc chip biscuits were popular with the kids. Will definitely return to try their hot meals off the menu. A great stop
