Nice walk, fairly easy and with a 5yr old 2yr old that manage walking to the top on their own (1hr track side). Awesome view from the look out

Nice walk to occupy half a day. Gravel road to the parking spot. Small walk to the loop junction where you can go right for the shorter way up, or left if you want to spread your climb over a longer distance. Times on the signs for the left choice are a little over the top 1.5-2 hours would be more realistic. 2 hours walking time car to car for fitter people, add your rest times to that. Can be slippery after rain, especially the many many roots, so watch your footing. Left side has a stream crossing which can be done with dry feet using the logs and good balance. Nice view and excellent picnic spot at the summit. Lookout tower a worthwhile addition to justify the trip up. No toilets. It's a DOC reserve, but no signage saying no dogs. So use your judgement. You are likely to be the only ones there if you pick a week day away from major holiday breaks. Quiet, peaceful, and a great walk.
