It turns out that if your clinician can't get a blood draw after 2 attempts - they are supposed to get another clinician/nurse to complete the extraction or re-schedule the appointment. My initial 'carer' was elderly - overly talkative and somewhat distracted... The first fail was no surprise... straight through the vein into the muscle on the other side - try again, other arm. The second, was spectacular and painful... she managed to find the vein but when she went to attach the vessel she she somehow twisted the needle and pulled it out of my arm... literally blood on the wall and the floor ! Try again, back to the first arm. The third time - she shouldn't even be attempting this but... I was unaware of the '2 strikes' policy - in she goes again ! Now I'm not sure what the result of the 3rd stabbing was... Another pad and tape were applied to the third attack site and she left the room... returning with a much younger person who smiled apologised and did the job in a few minutes with no problems. I understand that staffing levels are precarious. I realise that C-19 has made new staff hard to find... but if you are going to bring back retirees to help, can we ensure they are at least still competent at the everyday tasks they will have to perform ? TIA
