Mabels

For our first taste of Burmese food we had the set lunch at Mabels. Very well thought out options and a great way to get the feel of a new cuisine and food culture. Everything was extremely tasty, particularly the Kayan Thee Hin (spiced eggplant curry) followed pretty closely by the Wet Thar Kalepe Hin (pork belly curry). The salads were great too even if the A Thoke (Fermented green tea leave) salad was a very unique flavour that, for me, was a bit earthy. But like everything the first time you try it obviously becomes an acquired taste as it's one of the most requested dishes. Having read the dinner menu we'll definitely be back for more. And a big thank you to the very knowledgeable co-owner who gave us a great explantation of the dishes and their origins. Long may Mabels continue to thrive.

Excellent food with the most attentive and knowledgeable waitresses I've ever seen. Lots of vegan options - the eggplant curry was my favourite dish. Only negative I could find was that the restaurant was a bit noisy. Vegetarian options: Exceptional vegan and vegetarian options with knowledgeable staff who can help you choose

OMG. Having lived in Myanmar over 10yrs and finding this gem here in Welly for authentic Burmese fare. It was really good. I'm definitely coming back for everything else on the menu. For this first time, had the Garlic Oil Noodle, Pork Belly Mango Curry and Roti. Super good. Service was great too - that's the Burmese hospitality. I miss Myanmar
