Sunday Cantina

Had a wonderful lunch, Thai salad with prawns and seared beef, blue cheese salad. Both of us really enjoyed our food. Great food and lovely staff. Even made our young dog welcome in their lovely outdoor setting. Prices are fair for the size of portion and pretty such the same on anywhere on the Kapiti coast. Been here lots of times before, most of the time it's a good experience with nice food. The food can be hit and miss though, but its always a hit if the owner herself is in the kitchen because she's a pro. However, I went here recently, and the new waitress was getting such a hard time from the rest of the staff that it was quite horrible to see. They were eyerolling at each other about her, smirking at watching her struggle with overloaded plates without offering to help her, and then loudly criticising her in front of customers who were waiting to pay. Felt sorry for her, because she was clearly doing her best without support from her colleagues, and she did a great job with our table as she was friendly, helpful and efficient. Seeing this insight into the culture behind the scenes here has put me off. Its not nice to see bullying at brunch - it raised alot of eyebrows from customers because we all clearly felt bad about what we were seeing.
