If you are a young woman or Mori, I highly advise you avoid Dr Jenny Smith. Her way of practice is extremely outdated, she will belittle you as a patient, openly will deny you treatment you are entitled to and have every right to, and will compare you to other patients/groups of people which is against the NZ code of ethics for healthcare. If you complain she will write back to you saying "sorry YOU FELT that way" not acknowledging any wrong doing on her behalf. I went in to Horo Te Pai asking for my Mirena to be taken out with sedation as at least three women I knew said they had requested sedation for Mirena removal with their GPs and there were no questions asked, they just gave them what they requested and all was good. Unfortunately this was not my experience with Dr Jenny. When I recalled my traumatic experience getting the Mirena put in I was crying and terrified of having another bad experience. I made this extremely clear (I was crying and shaking, it couldn't have been more clear how terrified I was) but Dr Jenny seemed to not take this seriously. Although she wouldn't openly say the word "no" to me having the mirena removed, she keep pushing for me to not have sedation, she wouldn't just say yes, instead she said kept telling me sedation was not necessary as the procedure to take the Mirena out is only 15 minutes, I didn't care about that I simply just didn't want to be conscious during due to my trauma but she keep pushing for me to simply have it taken out with a pain killer. She then and I quote said "Ive has special needs patients who didn't even need sedation to take it out" and kept telling me it isn't painful but again I didn't care about that just wanted what I was entitled to and and knew my friends had had which was sedated Mirena removal. Dr Jenny kept pushing for the removal with only pain killers, and because I felt she was making it very clear she would not say yes to sedation I just said okay and left the appointment feeling even more traumatised, uncared for, unheard and disrespected. It was clear all I wanted was sedation and that I was traumatised by my experience hence why it was so difficult to keep trying to stand up for myself against her so I gave up and let her book me for removal with painkillers. I also still can not get over the fact that she implied that special needs women are weak therefore it is surprising they could have mirena removal without sedation but then compare me by implying I am weaker than a special needs women for trying to have my removal with sedation when they somehow can do it without, I mean that comment alone goes against quite a few of the codes of ethics. I am still shocked and traumatised by my experience and often think about it feeling horrible. She absolutely gave me a huge sense in mistrust towards GP's but specifically towards older female GP's, or older GP's in general as the way she talked to me and compared me to others is a very outdated. I assume Dr Jenny is is her 60s so learning how to talk appropriately with youth patients is important and if she doesn't care to update herself she should no longer be practicing or at-least not take on young patients.

Highly effective medical care at a price that makes a Dr's consultation affordable - so affordable that if you need an injury strapped, you shouldn't complain about $5. Maybe, find an alternative provider!
