Brilliant! So surprising to come out of the Bush and see this place. Made coffee and sat in the sun.

There was no one around when my friend and I stopped in, so I can't vouch for the friendliness or not of the owner / operator. But I was desperate for a sit down on a seat and to fill my drink bottle. With Cowboys Paradise closed until further notice, there was nowhere else to top up on water since Hokitika, so Trapper Rest was well recieved. The tame Weka was very cute, dragging my bit of sandwich crust into the bush and then back to see if anything else was thrown his way. Yes I know you're not supposed to feed them, but he was literally standing on my feet when the bit of crust fell. It would be great to see this place a bit more commercial with the ability to buy food and drink.

Very nice spot on the Wilderness Trail bike ride . The owner very friendly and informative - offers hot drinks for a gold coin.
