We went to there at 29/07-30/07/2022 ,heavy snow during the overbite but was stunning snow world. It took us 7hrs go to hut and back cost 7 hrs as well although the doc recommended 5hrs but all way covered snow its soft and hard to walking.U need to crossover 3 rivers and its cold if u didnt remove ur boots to change the sandals.Tough but interesting experience hiking in winter also risky as well so so slippery.Last time the visitors been there is at one month ago ,so check the weather and make sure you got experience or equipments ,its very hard to walking in fresh snow .

A really great, well serviced hut. There's a warm fire places and sinks, but not much else. When we went the water wasn't drinkable as it was green, but there is plenty of river water near by. The bunks are the same as the rest of the DOC ones. The hike there requires multiple river crossings, after no rain the highest didn't go above the waist, but this could be much higher after rain. Remember to keen an eye out on the forecast. Photos are from the hike there.
