This experience was much more than we expected! We walked to "Buccleugh's on High" for dinner (about 2 km from our hotel). After a huge dinner we couldn't walk back. Called Greymouth Taxis. Taxi driver (Ian) picked us up. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. The desk clerk at Copthorne (Kelly) encouraged us to go see the sunset at the end of the jetty. We called Greymouth Taxis again and (Ian) took us to the end of the jetty. We were fully entertained watching a fishing boat expertly negotiate one of the most dangerous ocean river tributaries (the bar). And then were star struck by one of the most beautiful Tasman Sea sunsets. Greymouth Taxis picked us up and gave us a tour of the town, told us about its history, and it's current travails. His love for this wonderful place and the strength and attitude about its people is the emotion, people, and love stuff from which great movies are made. In short, one of the best tours we've experienced in South Island NZ.
