Absolutely recommend this fantastic B&B with several private and wonderful rooms to choose from - I looked at so many when booking and was very happy we stumbled upon Newton Heights on Instagram (the photos are good but they really don't do it justice - it is really lovely and there is some wonderful NZ art on display. The actual home is a very new large architecturally designed residence perched on the hill (nice as it was warm with lovely new bathrooms) with stunning breakfast terrace views to admire and soak in (was also perfect for when we were having wine and cheese on our private terrace before venturing out for supper and our room had views of the harbour). Gail and Brendan are happy to give excellent restaurant recommendations (Mandala was our favourite). There is a lovely shared courtyard / terrace on the other side where you can sit in the sun /or under the shade (or nestle by the fireplace presumably in winter) and there is a jacuzzi/spa to soak in should you want to enjoy a hot tub. The rooms are a good size with all the trimmings (robes + tea/coffee + chocolates (go for the NZ Whittakers mini-chocolates if you haven't tried them) and they are flexible with when you want breakfast which my mum said was her absolute highlight - we all enjoyed (perhaps Dad the most) the never-ending fully cooked breakfast with eggs/omelet/coffees/tea (whatever you want) and if you are still hungry pastries, fresh berries with homemade muesli ... it really was fantastic and we dined on the terrace overlooking the harbour and chatted to the other guests (there were some lovely friendly Americans staying who were lively conversationalists). Gail and Brendan really are excellent and seasoned hosts, they are lovely, kind, very knowledgeable, and enjoyable to chat with, but also know when to leave the guests to settle in and enjoy the facilities. Was a great experience and have recommended this place to friends and family. Akaroa is a charming getaway not far from Christchurch (2 hours-ish drive) but it is worth booking somewhere this nice as it really enhanced the whole trip - we absolutely loved it. See you next summer Newton Heights - Best, Sarah X Ps. They sorted out the parking so was good to have a safe spot for the cars right next to the B&B (it is also down a private-style road so safe and secure).

The room was gorgeous as was the whole house. We were so comfortable there we didnt want to leave. The hosts Gail and Brendon are really lovely genuine people. We had the best stay of our lives there. It was so special to us, we will always remember Gail and Brendon because they touched our hearts with their incredible warmth and generosity. We really had the best stay ever. The views, fabulous home decor, conversation, and five star food and treats really made our stay extra special. Our favorite stay ever by far.

So glad to have decided to stay with Gail and Brendon. They're exceptionally friendly and welcoming and took care of us really well! The property itself is a home-converted airbnb and the architecture, design and decorative pieces are stunning! They make every effort to accommodate your needs and itinerary too! Did I mention, they make huge and tasty breakfasts that will keep you full till well past noon? (side note: architecture students should come and see this masterpiece! Brendon will gladly fill you with the history and crack a joke or two!)
