Owner is aggressive and rude. Felt unsafe in his presence and would not recommend dealing with this individual. Much better options available in such a scenic location. 1 star. EDIT - Response to owner. Not a scam response. Individual is aggressive and rude and would not recommend.

Large, beautifully decorated apartment with perfect amenities and great extra nice touches (beach towels and spades for nearby Hot Water Beach!) and a beautiful patio. Our stay was lovely and we wish we had had more time at Cathedral Cove apartment but what made it truly special was the warm welcome and great recommendations of Ngairene and Ray, the most caring hosts. Will recommend Cathedral Cove apartment to everyone coming to lovely Hahei. Thank you Ngairene and Ray!

Absolutely recommend a stay here. The apartment is lovely and spacious, with everything you need to prepare your meals, should you want to do so like we did. We loved sitting out on the sunny patio after a long day of driving. A special and BIG thank you Ray and Ngairene for letting us come back after our kayaking tour (which was canceled the previous day due to rough seas) to rinse the sand and salt off before we drove to Auckland!!
