Bay Plaza Hotel

Rooms: The only drawback is no air-conditioning. I'm not sure how warm it could be in the summertime as windows have security stays on them, so only open a small way. They do provide a fan, though. Nearby activities: Easy walk to Te Papa and town and the waterfront. Walkability: Flat walking to most activities in the area.

What we enjoyed about the Hotel: - Great location! Its a 5min walk to Courtenay Place where theres plenty of restaurants and bars to check out - Staff are friendly (front of house & house keeping) - They gave us complimentary check out till 11am - Room was spacious and beds were comfortable - They allow storage of suitcases for free after checkout while we continue to explore the city What could have made it a 4-5 star hotel: - The hotel is very dated and could do with a bit of upgrade in the rooms - Lifts are small. There might be a bit of a wait as can only fit 2 people with their luggage in there. A couple squeezed in with their luggage while 2 of us were already in there and it wasnt pleasant. - No air conditioning in the rooms. We had to close our curtains before we left our room so that when we returned it wasnt as hot because the fans didnt really do much - Bathroom shower is like a cubicle, can be a bit claustrophobic as theres no air vent above the shower - The air vent in the bathroom was above the toilet but the dust on there was thick - The walls are thin you can hear peoples TV when you come out of the lift

Reading previous negative reviews after making my booking I was concerned. I requested a room above the 6th floor, facing the harbour and away from the elevators. My request was honoured with a room on the 9th floor, spectacular views and it was very quiet. The staff (Scarlett Lee and others) were super kind, friendly an accommodating. I had to leave luggage and groceries at reception as I was checking in later and when I got back everything was already in my room. Very clean and pleasant!!
