After initial quote that was cheaper than competition by 15%, the final quote was increased by 45% higher after visit, for dodgy reasons. Competition (who have the same outside influences and circumstances) held their prices, so Im very happy to have chosen for a competitor!

(Since writing the review below, we have been in correspondence with New Zealand Movers. They are looking into our complaints and have agreed to absorb the cost of the latest bill from Schumacher, for which we are very grateful. The New Zealand Movers representative has been polite and attentive in our correspondences.) I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. The shipping date was delayed (the excuse was Covid delays). We received our container 4 months after they promised it would be here. Along the way they charged us an extra $7,985 (NZ). (Again, the excuse was Covid.) When our container finally arrived we received an additional bill for $665 (U.S.) from their U.S. affiliate, Schumaker Transport. Eight months after the container was delivered we received yet another bill from Schumaker for $420 (U.S.). We can understand the problems caused by the Covid restrictions, but the additional costs from both NZ Movers and Schumaker were unexpected and excessive. When we questioned NZ Movers, they pretty much blew us off. They had us over a barrel, if we wanted our belongings, so had to pay the additional nearly $8,000. Then when Schumaker added costs two months after we had received our goods, and we questioned them, they threatened to turn us over to a collection agency! When we were finally informed in March that our container was ready to be shipped, NZ Movers told us there was additional paperwork to be completed. When we were getting quotes, we were told by the NZ Mover agent that they would take care of all the paperwork, and we thought they had everything in order before we even left NZ. So in March we had to make an overseas call to NZ Movers. We were told to fill out the attached document. We could not understand what was being asked for and, again made an overseas phone call to NZ Movers. Again, we were told to fill out the attached document. When we said we did not understand what they were asking we were told a bunch of jibberish that made it obvious that the NZ Mover agent didn't know what was being asked either. We demanded help from someone who knew what they were talking about and were told that someone else from the company would contact us. Finally, after a third overseas phone call we were able to talk with someone who was able to help us fill out the document! What a hassle!!!! As we are unpacking our items, we are finding a number of items have been broken our damaged. Our possessions were NOT packed well at all! There was lots of empty space in the boxes, simply filled with packing material. It seems that the packers decided that it was easier to rely on extra packing material, rather than take the time to pack things snuggly and appropriately. We are beyond disappointment with New Zealand Movers and their affiliate Schumaker. We are outraged with the delays, unfulfilled promises, additional costs and lack of professionalism. We had a quote for a price, and no matter what the fine print may say, we consider it extremely unethical and unprofessional to continue to add fees after the fact - some exorbitant. We paid all the money up front in good faith, that the only additional fees we might incur would be any that U.S. customs asked for. A contract with them means absolutely nothing! We will never use either company again and do all we can to prevent anyone we know from using them either.

Very poor service and they don't take responsibility of their work, do not use this company, there are many other like NZ Van lines and others to give better, upfront and cost effective services. They have arrogant staff and non-responsive, we were told to read fine prints once paid them, very disappointed. They outsource work to other company hence have no control at all.
