New Zealand Discount Car Rentals

Not a great start when I turned up at 4.30 and no one was in the office.. I called the number which went of course to the office so a bit stuck there. Luckily the office across the road spotted me and had my key. Would have been great if Discount cars had let me know. With key finally in hand I went to get my car and was very disappointed to have what looked to be the oldest car in the parking lot. I'm not one for creating a fuss but this was really old. So I went back to the other office to ask if they had a number I could contact someone on. They did. I called...I was told "we'd been very busy and that's all that we had left and because no one was there they coulent do anything anyway unless i wanted to wait until rhe next day" I was frustrated because I certainly didn't pay for " all that we had left " I'd payed for what I thought would be a fairly modern car that would be comfy for long drives, would allow me to charge my phone and maybe even use Bluetooth or a cable to listen to music or podcasts. With no option I took the car. Which was fine. My gripe really comes from the lack of communication, not being particularly helpful and being left with an old car. I've been hiring cars for years in many counties and this was the worst I'd been given. I just expected better.

This was a good experience. We flew in and out of Christchurch. Shuttle pick up instructions were clear and both times pretty much on demand. Car was as we ordered, small and economical. It didn't miss a beat on our tour around part of the South Island. The folk we dealt with picking up and dropping off were friendly and warm, so it felt like they were friends helping. We hired for two weeks, and the cost of hiring was about $180 cheaper than any other deal we could find on the internet. Based on our experience with this company we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
